Sauce: 1/2 cup water 1/3 cup soy 2/3 cup brown sugar (these first three combined are a good knockoff/replacement for Yoshida's teriyaki, which is hard to find) 1/2 box of favorite curry, S&B Golden Curry, comes in a box with large cubes of curry.  Look in the Asian isle at the market...I find it at Walmart and Kroger easily.  It is the BEST.  We usually get mild. more water to dilute as necessary heat to melt curry and sugar 1 onion cut in large chunks 2 garlic cloves, minced (didn't do tonight, but would be good) 1&1/2 cup brocolli 1 small can whole tomatos, drained and cut into 4 -6 pieces 3/4-1lb peeled, deveined shrimp tossed in 1/4 cup corn starch and dusted off handful of fresh basil, torn or chopped vegi oil stir fry onion till translucent and tender, add garlic if using and let gently cook till fragrant, careful not to burn add tomato & broccoli (my brocolli was frozen, so already a little tender, but c...

pre Mother's Day curry 5.10.14

It's a sign of how this year has gone that I haven't blogged really at all in 2014...and it's May.  It's been a wonderful year, but too busy, which I'm working on resolving for the remainder of 2015. It's Saturday before Mother's Day.  I did a pedicure house call for a spicy Spanish lady in her older years.  She is precious and funny.  It has been a warm, breezy and beautiful day.  Scott & I watched Triple D this morning and got inspiration to do curry with the pork chops we had in the fridge.  It's cooking now...fried noodles warm in the oven and curry sauce with red peppers, onions with basil and fresh tomatoes waiting in the wings for the end. This recipe is a family favorite..although usually without the vegies for the pickers family members and with chicken for the protein. love fresh flowers in the house 4 packets of ramen noodles, cooked, cooled and then fried. YUM tomato, pork, onion and fresh basil curry fresh basil...

We were long overdue for some homemade stir fry.  I was hoping for some kitchen inspiration...it's hard to care about cooking when it is 104 outside...I almost don't even care about eating when it is this hot...almost. So off to Market Street I went...for stir fry ingredients and watermelon...I figure if I cook then Scott will make us a watermelon\mango margarita! beef & broccoli stir fry (inspired by my Momma's world class stirfry recipes) 1 lb flank steak...sliced very (paper) thin against the grain (I put it in the freezer for a while which helps in the cutting) 2 heads broccoli...I separate the florets and then trim & slice the stems...they are yummy too! 8 oz baby bella mushrooms (Scott's fav), cleaned and cut in half...I remove the stems and cut them in half too 2 cloves garlic 1 tbs corn starch (mixed with a little cold water and whisk till a thin paste) 2-3 tbs canola oil (add to pan as needed to stir fry) drizzle of sesame oil 1/2 cup each fresh bas...

A lot of these pics are backwards...but you get the idea. We've cooked so many things since my last post....I've been busy eating it all, but busy posting for my classroom blog.  This food has fueled all the creative energy I need for my little munchkins at school.  Thanks to everything man, I'm well fed. I think this is chunks of ham?  No, I think left over BBQ pork chops....Found the below notes on a previous draft for this post "It's Sunday nite, 1.24.16.  Chile Verde mise has been done...and it smells like chicken broth in my home.  Scott's watching football with a Corona in hand.  We had a great weekend and now it's time to rest up and wind up the weekend for work tomorrow.  I can't believe it's already more than half way through the school year...it goes by faster and faster.  And I love every minute." Frozen sautéed onions we keep on hand. roasted poblanos, garlic...I see verde in my future. Cumin, chile powder, masa ...
