2.20.10 Madi's 6th Bday

Image
its actually the day before Madi's 6th bday. we're at Nana & Papa's house with the whole family...but missing Papa who's on the road. I think Madi had a great day...she's so precious and we had lots of good fun. I made a chocolate cake per her request...with a hint of mint and Mikey & Amanda ordered pizza for all. Uncle Erich got lots of decorations and Nana supplied lots of presents as always...you can always count on Nana for lots of presents! Chocolate Cake with Mint Cream Cheese frosting...box devils food cake mix...Duncan Hines, with Sprinkles Cream Cheese frosting with added melted chocolate and mint extract....decorations per sisa. Happy Birthday Madison!

the best meal of the week was the simplest...and toffee chocolate cake! 8.23.09

Grilled ribeye, topped with crumbled blue cheese which was like a sauce all melting on the steak.  Steak seasoned with s,p and garlic powder and rubbed with olive oil.  Served with a simple baked potato with sourcream and cheese. We'd been making all kinds of great food lately, but this simple steak and potato with about 4 ingredients was the best meal of the week! We finished with a chocolate cake, topped with chocolate chip studded cream cheese frosting and topped with toffee almond crumbs.  It was amazing!  Just a box mix, with my favorite cream cheese frosting with just some chopped choc chips stirred in...then my toffee crumbs from the freezer.  WOW!  I made this into cupcakes later.  A definate victory!

Baking with Madison...thank the Lord for chocolate.

Madison was inspired to bake by her book... What's baking,Strawberry Shortcake? ...and by her bunny cookie house she decorated yesterday. It was time to bake a chocolate cake...a good time filler for a five year old and her tired "auntie"...who earlier in the day while swimming and irritated at me told me that she was too big to play with toys...while she did the quotes with her fingers! How does a five year old know to do quotation marks with her fingers to emphasis her point!? I asked her what that meant, what she did with her fingers...and she replied something a little non-sensical...but no so much that it still didn't leave me scratching my head. I am amazed at what comes out of her little mind...she told me today, totally out of the blue that she was sad (this while watching a video right next to me and completely happy just seconds before). I asked why she was sad...and as only a child of divorce can so heart-breakingly say..."I don't want another bed....
